20/20 on the Pine Ridge Reservation

What?              ”Children of the Plains” TV program

When?             Friday, October 14, 2011, at 10 PM Eastern (9 Central)
trong>Where?           ABC / Channel 7 on “20/20″

Thanks to Diane Sawyer and her 20/20 news special, the word is getting out to mainstream America about the Pine Ridge Reservation and life for the children there.

Diane Sawyer has reportedly spent a year on the Pine Ridge Reservation visiting with children and families about their struggles, hopes, and dreams. NRC works on the reservations daily, so we know that this programming will be heartwarming for some and shocking for others. It’s an important show and one not to miss.

In the lead up to this broadcast, ABC News reports statistics that start to tell the story about life on the reservation, a story NRC has shared with many who support our work. ABC’s article goes on to tell the real life story of a child who lives in government housing in Manderson, South Dakota “with her grandmother, parents, siblings and uncles - sometimes up to 19 people live in the three-bedroom house, which has seen better days.” There are many children on the reservation with housing and other challenges – but their hope and dreams remain strong.

Be sure to watch this Friday night!!
